Who doesn’t love Amsterdam? The Dutch capital may be a popular travel destination but it’s definitely not overrated. Amsterdam is a state of mind that if you’re willing to live, you’d enjoy to the fullest.
Put space cake aside, Amsterdam is better experienced while sober for all the good reasons.
Here’s why you’ll definitely love Amsterdam:
It’s picturesque
The long walks around the canals, the quirky architecture, the famed Vondelpark, and so much more make this beautiful city look like as if it’s taken out of a painting. If you’re into cycling or photography, then you’ll fall in love with Amsterdam for sure!
The fun fair
Whether you’re up for spooky haunted houses or a birds-eye view from a Ferris wheel, fun fairs are pretty common in Amsterdam and they’ll take you back to the good old days. Did I mention there are cotton candy and popcorn?
Stroop waffles
Waffles, in general, in Amsterdam are out of this world, but the Dutch specialty of stroop waffles? That’s indescribable! Let’s say you’ll go back home with a stock of that sweet delicacy.
The spontaneity
The laid back vibe there is everything! Up for a spontaneous adventure outside your comfort zone? Amsterdam’s your go-to! The people are amazing and super friendly; you’ll mingle with random strangers on the go easily. The city’s also small and as you explore it by foot, you’ll stumble upon unexpected activities and hidden gems.
The Van Gogh Museum
I just have a thing for art museums, and even though my favorites are contemporary art museums or those featuring artwork dating back to the Renaissance era, I loved this one. The Van Gogh Museum was definitely a great experience worth the long queue. Seeing my favorite Van Gogh painting, Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, was the cherry on top.
AMF
Amsterdam Music Festival was by far the highlight of my trip to the Dutch capital. The line up to the edition I’ve attended featured David Guetta, Don Diablo, The Chainsmokers, Alesso, Hardwell, Axwell & Ingrosso, and more.
The festival takes place every October. This year’s headliners still haven’t been announced, so stay tuned and check the website for updates.
Toscanini!
Only Egyptians could relate to this one. Whoever grew up watching Heneidy’s Hamam Fi Amsterdam must have one thing on his/her bucket list, dine at Toscanini! Being the kind of traveler that I am, I would have rather invest that bulk of money for an unforgettable day at AMF than spend it on a fancy six-course meal. So, I found Toscanini via Google Maps and cared to take a selfie!
