Travel dreams have gone down the drain thanks to the global Coronavirus pandemic situation. This has left us all, travelers, feeling nothing but down. But in spite of all the negative vibes and the tedious quarantine hours, we can still bring positivity to our lives even if we can’t travel now. Here’s what you can do to get a taste of the world from the comfort of your own sofa.
#1 Read some travel books
From Around the World in 80 Days to Eat Pray Love, there are plenty of travel books out there that’ll take you places. Trust me, you’re wild imagination will make up for all the time you lost in quarantine.
#2 Watch travel movies
If you’re not a reader, then many of these books actually have film adaptations, plus other travel movies that you can’t miss anyway. Check out my wanderlust-fueled picks here.
#3 Make a travel-inspired playlist
Put your headphones on, close your eyes, and disconnect; you’ll slowly find yourself traveling to places you’ve always wanted to visit. That’s the power of music, ladies and gentlemen. Go make a travel-themed playlist and don’t forget to check out my road trip playlist on Spotify.
#4 Work on your second/third language
Yes, you can’t travel right now, but when you do, a second or third language will surely come in handy. If you’ve always wanted to improve your French or Spanish or maybe try learning Italian for a change, now’s the time. Head to Duolingo and get started. Watching movies and listening to music in the foreign language you’re learning will also help you a lot.
#5 Experiment with different cuisines
Don’t we all love the food factor in travel? We come back hung up on a cuisine sometimes even more than the destination itself. Now you have all the time in the world to unleash your inner chef and try making some of your favorite dishes. Do you like burritos, crepes, and bruschetta? Then Google some recipes now.
#6 Go on virtual tours
From the Louvre to the British Museum, if you’re a sightseeing kind of traveler, there are plenty of museums that offer virtual tours online. If museums are not your cup of tea, then I highly recommend you check out these exceptional virtual experiences that’ll boost your dopamine and adrenaline levels.
#7 Plan your next trip
Who said you can’t plan for a trip if you can’t travel right away? Set your mind on a destination to visit when all of this is over and the least you could do is start saving for it. No one said book anything, but just do your research and plan your itinerary, and once you’re ready to take off, make all the reservations right away. Just stay positive and you’ll get through it.
