About LX Factory Lisboa

LX Factory is one of Lisbon’s most fun hangout spots I was so happy to stumble upon. Once an industrial complex that dates back to 1846, LX Factory Lisboa is now one of the coolest commercial spaces in the city. It was transformed into an artsy creative space with so much to offer.

#3 Browse the LX Factory Bookstore, Ler Devagar

When in Lisbon, you mustn’t miss the iconic LX Factory bookstore. Ler Devagar, which translates to “read slowly” in Portuguese, was named one of the 10 most beautiful bookstores in the world. Known for its grand staircase, famed flying bicycle, and endless selection of books stacked against its walls, Ler Devagar is a great place to read and enjoy a drink or a cup of coffee.

It’s not limited to bookworms though – they have a huge collection of music records too. Plus, they often hold exhibitions, musical performances, and different events. So, make sure you check out their schedule/social media when you’re in town.

#4 Admire the art

Besides the art galleries and stores, LX Factory Lisboa is home to lots of pretty murals and art installations. Just going for a stroll there reveals vibrant aesthethics in every corner.

#5 Visit the LX Factory Market

If you happen to be in Lisbon on a Sunday, don’t miss visiting the LX Factory market, where local brands, artists, and other vendors will have their unique products on display. The LX Factory Sunday market takes place from 10 AM to 7 PM.

#6 Attend an event

Besides the weekly Sunday market, there are other events often held at LX Factory. Art exhibitions, talks, BBQ events, festivals, and more. Make sure to check out LX Factory Lisboa’s official Instagram page for updates during your trip.

#7 Book a group painting workshop

Made new friends in Lisbon? Whether you met at your hostel, on a pub crawl, or through a social/dating app, you can take a break from sightseeing and go painting instead. Unleash your inner artist at LX Paint.

#8 Get a tattoo or a piercing!

It’s quite common among travelers to get inked to commemorate special trips. In my case, I get piercings, and I got my 4th travel piercing at Queen of Hearts Tattoos. I had a great experience there – they’re very professional and hygienic. They have several branches around the city and one of them is in LX Factory Lisboa. If you’re getting a tattoo though, make sure you book an appointment in advance.

Where to Stay in Lisbon?

Just when you think this commercial complex has given you everything, you discover it’s also home to its very own hostel! Quite impressive, right? LX Hostel also has a rooftop bar where you can meet other travelers, just in case you prefer to stay elsewhere.

If you choose to stay somewhere that’s more centrally located, that makes a lot of sense. You can find my Lisbon hostel recommendations below. I personally recommend Sant Jordi Hostels, where I stayed. You can read my full review about my stay here

How to Get to LX Factory Lisboa?

LX Factory Lisboa is located in Alcantara, a trendy area that offers easy access to both the historic center and the more modern attractions in Belém.

Assuming you’re moving from central areas like Baixa or Chiado, you have 3 transport options:

#1 Tram

Take tram 15E towards Algés then get off at the Calvário stop, which is a walking distance from LX Factory.

#2 Bus

There are lots of bus lines that have stops near LX Factory, such as lines 714, 727, 732, 751, and 760. Depending on which line you take, you can get off at LX Factory or Calvário bus stops and walk to your destination from there.

#3 Ride-share

If time is a priority and you don’t want to go through the hassle of public transportation, you can take a taxi or use a ride-hailing service. A ride from the city center should take you about 10-15 mins to get to LX Factory, depending on traffic.
