Has Egypt been on your travel bucket list for so long and you’re finally planning your grand trip? Then you’re probably making a stop in Cairo, to see the Great Pyramids of Giza (and more), and definitely wondering where to stay. To help you with your search for the best hotels in Cairo, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite picks that would suit all solo travelers alike, no matter what their budgets are.

Is Cairo a solo travel destination?
YES! Cairo is a very lively, dynamic city with action taking place in every corner. The general rule of thumb is that locals could be either friendly or curious – either way, they’ll be more than happy to engage with tourists. And since Egypt is big when it comes to tourism and it’s a major attraction for travelers from all around the world, you’ll most likely find other solo travelers to connect with.
On the other hand, you may be wondering whether or not Cairo is safe for solo travelers. Well, as a local myself, I can assure you that you’ll be just fine as long as you follow common sense. Cairo is a a big city with lots of extremely busy streets where everything stays up late. So, walking around Downtown Cairo at 10 PM is very normal. Of course, mishaps may occur, but can’t they happen anywhere in the world too? That’s why caution is on you.
If I may give you a heads up though, it would be that Cairo might give you some major culture shock feels. If you come from a small town or city that is rather quiet and empty, your first day in Cairo may be a bit overwhelming. That’s why you need to mentally prepare yourself for some crazy driving, insane crowds, and a little bit of a somehow beautiful chaos.
Where NOT to stay in Cairo?
A common mistake that I find a lot of travelers making is that they stay in small hotels in El Haram or Nazlet El Seman areas only because they’re promised an epic view of the Great Pyramids. Well, I know that kind of view is irresistible, but it’s definitely not the best choice of neighborhood if you want my opinion.
If you want to stay in what’s equivalent to the ghettos in Egypt, that’s fine, but don’t complain later about not being able to roam the streets comfortably. After all, your experience walking down the streets or commuting has a major influence on your overall perception of a city that you’ll be forming within days. And given that almost all tourist attractions in Cairo are in poor neighborhoods, the city might be a bit too hard to handle for the light-hearted.
My advice is to stay in Downtown Cairo or somewhere nearby. Yes, Cairo is a super big city and attractions and sites are scattered all over, but you want to stay as central as possible. However, if waking up to the pyramids is an absolute must for you, I’ll be listing some accommodation options down below that are so hard to say no to.
Best Hotels in Cairo: Where to Stay in Cairo If You’re a Solo Traveler?
The great thing about Egypt is that the exchange rate makes it a very cheap destination. So, luxury here is actually pretty affordable! However, even if this is not how you roll and you have a different travel style, you’ll find something for you. That’s why I didn’t just pick for you the best hotels in Cairo, but I also included boutique hotels, hostels, and Airbnbs.
Hostels in Cairo for Budget Travelers
Traveling on a budget? No worries! Even though hostels aren’t that common in Egypt, we still have some really good options. Here are the ones I’d recommend.
Madina Hostel
There aren’t many hostels in Cairo – at least not many “real” hostels in my opinion. However, when I came across Madina Hostel, I was quite impressed. The vibes there reminded me of the hostels I’ve been to in Europe, but with the Downtown Cairo artsy twist. Aside from the simple, relaxing aesthetics, the environment there is super friendly – when I hung out in their kitchen, the owner showed me videos of the random times he decided to cook for all guests.
Located in the heart of Downtown Cairo, only a walking distance from Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum, Madina Hostel offers panoramic views of the Nile. Their rooms vary in size, as well as budget. There are double and triple rooms and there are 6-bed dorms; there are king-size beds and bunk beds; and there are ensuite rooms and ones where you get to share the bathroom.
Even though Madina Hostel opened its doors right when the pandemic hit, in such hard times, the place managed to prove itself.
Dahab Hostel
Yes, you guessed it! This hostel’s name is indeed inspired by Egypt’s heavenly beach town, Dahab. It’s simply a recreation of Dahab’s laid-back campsites in the heart of the busy Downtown Cairo. Its chilled vibes, colorful aesthetics, and iconic rooftop are probably the main reasons why this hostel is a fan-favorite within the travel community.
There’s a variety of accommodation options from single rooms to 6-bed dorms, all of which are budget-friendly. Most of those whom I stumbled upon who chose to stay there were backpackers and budget travelers. So, if this sounds like you, then this is your go-to.
Luxury Hotels in Cairo
Are you the kind of traveler who likes to splurge on fancy experiences? No judging because solo travelers can also be digital nomads and online entrepreneurs with 6-figure businesses. If that’s the case, kudos for you! And the good news is the Egypt’s a great place to splurge because luxury here is not even that expensive.
Marriott Mena House
Now if the view to Ancient Egypt is important to you, this is a place you can’t say no to. This historic hotel used to be a hunting lodge built for Khedive Ismail and his guests back in 1869. Over the years, it was sold multiple times, but after several owners and expansions, it’s currently managed by Marriott International.
This is one of the most iconic hotels in the entire country, not just because it offers some of the best views of the Giza Plateau, but also because of the amount of history there. This place has witnessed several important events; was seen in lots of renowned Egyptian movies; and was visited by many international celebrities and public figures such as Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Bill Gates, Lionel Messi, Will Smith, and more.
Marriott Zamalek
Another wonderful historic hotel, that is also run by Marriott International, is the Cairo Mariott Hotel in Zamalek. This was also built in the year 1869 by Khedive Ismail for the guests that came to attend the Suez Canal celebrations. Formerly known as El Gezirah Palace, it was later transformed into a luxury hotel in 1894.
This is hands down my favorite luxury hotel in the city, not just because of its history, but because of its impeccable architecture and interior design, as well as the wonderful panoramic views it offers. Depending on which wing you’re staying, you could either stay in a room/suite overlooking the Nile or lush greenery of Zamalek. My favorite thing about this hotel is definitely the beds – the pillows are just magical. I really think it’s part of their strategy to draw you back!
Sofitel El Gezirah
Sofitel El Gezirah is all about affordable luxury paired with a great location and the incredible Nile views. The hotel is situated near the Cairo Opera House in Zamalek and it’s right across the Nile from Downtown Cairo, where you can roam the historic streets and visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. It’s also worth mentioning that Sofitel is within walking distance to the Cairo Tower.
Just like any 5-star hotel, Sofitel El Gezirah has a variety of facilities, but what makes it extra special is the infinity pool! But instead of an ocean, replace it with the longest river in the world.
Four Seasons Nile Plaza
No luxury hotel list would be complete without mentioning the one and only Four Seasons. There are two in Cairo, but Four Seasons is kind of my favorite. Plus, it has a more central location, so it made sense to recommend this one. It’s located in Garden City, a lovely neighborhood, known for lush greenery, that’s less than 5 minutes away from Downtown Cairo.
Since the Four Seasons offers extraordinary experiences around the world, the Cairo branch also brings you one. This is the only hotel in Cairo that can grant you the private dinner of your dreams, one inspired by ancient Egyptian kings and queens. You can enjoy dining in a private tent at the Giza Plateau where you get to marvel at the only remaining ancient wonder of the world, the Great Pyramids.
Boutique Hotels in Cairo
Looking for an upscale accommodation, yet you want to keep the simplicity and hoping for something cozy? Check out these boutique hotels!
Villa Belle Époque
Whatever vibe this hotel’s name gives you, it’s what you should expect! Villa Belle Epoque is a boutique hotel in a colonial-era property, located in the beautiful neighborhood of Maadi, where you can enjoy the lush greenery and sunshine. The location may not be the typical tourist’s first choice, but Maadi is only 20 minutes away from Downtown. So, the dash of elegance and tranquility is totally worth it.
There are single, double, and triple rooms, as well as suites at the property – they have a total of 16 rooms. The best part of it is the outdoor area where you can enjoy your morning coffee or sit by the pool.
Hotel Longchamps
This boutique hotel is nothing extra but it’s incredibly cozy – the vibes will make you feel at home. The rooms are skillfully designed and interiors are curated by the hotel owner herself. So, if you’re looking for serenity and simplicity, this place in Zamalek is the one.
Talisman
Talisman is a hidden gem in the heart of Downtown Cairo. The bold colors and the arabesque interiors are just on point. As for the cherry on top, then that’s definitely its central location and proximity to everything you need.

Houseboat
What’s cooler than staying in a traditional houseboat in the Nile? Houseboat 65 offers 2 separate houses on one boat in central Cairo, only a 10-minute drive from Downtown.
Eclectic Oasis
When an early-20th century building and artsy, boho-chic interiors comes together, Eclectic Oasis in the heart of Downtown Cairo is the result.
Xuru Stays’ Jacuzzi by the Pyramids
Now you know how to book this Instagram-famous jacuzzi!
Again, I don’t recommend staying long-term near the Pyramids. This is ideal if you’re staying for 1 night in Cairo to see the ancient wonder.
