The third Sunday of every July marks Ice-Cream Day, so in light of this joyful occasion, I visited multiple gelaterias and ice cream parlors, in search of the best ice-cream in Cairo. But as you all probably know, no piece of content can come to life that smoothly.
First, I got a sugar rush, so I had to continue filming on another day, then after I miraculously finished, I LOST MY GOPRO! Don’t worry, I managed to find it a day later, but at least I did. That’s a story for another time though.
Anyway, back to ice-cream in Cairo. After visiting various gelato and ice-cream vendors in the city, I picked my top 4. Of course, there are way more options than those I listed below, but after a lot (and I mean A LOT) of tasting, I figured out those are THE BEST! These are the four ice cream spots that deserved to make it to the list (and the Vlog, of course).
Stavolta
I got a scoop of gianduja ice-cream (hazelnut-based chocolate flavor) in a small cone. The flavor felt a lot like Nutella (a personal fav), so it’s definitely something I’d get again.
Branches: Sheikh Zayed (Westown Hub), Korba, Maadi, New Cairo (Point 90)
Price: EGP 35
Flavor Rating: 4/5
Gelato Mio
I’d have to say, this could definitely be compared to authentic Italian gelato! The textures are so creamy and soft and the flavors taste like they’re some sort of a secret grandma recipe. I got two scoops of panna cotta (an Italian dessert), as well as toffee and salted pecans in a cone. Totally recommended!
Branches: Maadi, Zamalek, Heliopolis
Prices: Prices here are cone-based not scoop based. A large cone is for EGP 30 and a small one is for EGP 20. You can add up to 3 flavors.
Flavor Rating: 4.5/5
Snö Gelato
This new ice-cream place is surely going to take the market by storm. I got to try all the available flavors and I’d have to say it was a really hard choice. I got two scoops; one mint and one gianduja, in a cone. The flavors were so vivid and the waffle cone had a very powerful biscuity taste; I just loved it!
Branches: Maadi
Price: EGP 55
Flavor Rating: 5/5
Dara’s Ice Cream
Pricey but totally worth it! My friends tagged along and we went big this time. After trying every single flavor at the place, we got an ice-cream cone each, but not just your average cone. Ready for the sugar rush?
Well, the guy first added authentic Belgian chocolate to the inside lining of the waffle cones. He then sliced half a white chocolate-caramel cookie and added it as a base, then covered it with more Belgian chocolate (at this point, I was already drooling). He then finally added the ice-cream scoops (flavors were mango, honeycomb, white chocolate, and fudge), topped them with the remaining sliced cookie halves, and MORE Belgian chocolate.
As much as this feels like too much, it actually felt like ice-cream heaven. The flavors and the entire combo were incredible!
Branches: Sheikh Zayed (Galleria 40), New Cairo, Maadi (NEW BRANCH)
Price: EGP 110/cone
1 scoop = EGP 35
Add-ons: waffle cone (EGP 15) + Belgian chocolate (EGP 15 x2) + white chocolate cookie (EGP 30)
Flavor Rating: 5/5
P.S: Dara’s Ice-Cream definitely gets a +1 for reducing plastic consumption. I got to try flavors with stainless steel spoons!
