Craving American Food in Florence? You’ll Love This Diner!

As we travel and devour the destination’s cuisine along the way, no matter how much we enjoy it, our bellies sometimes long for something more familiar. Not because the traditional food is not as good, but because you’d definitely need a break if you eat pasta every day, even if your pasta’s number 1 fan. So, if you ever find yourself craving food in Florence that isn’t Italian (just for a change) and you happen to be an American food enthusiast, read along.

On a side note: Italian cuisine is one of my top favorites, and I’m a big fan of pizza and pasta, but traveling for 10+ days around Italy required a minor gastronomic break to be able to handle the remaining carbs. And given that I’m a hardcore carnivore, some juicy American burgers sounded like a good idea.

Where to have American Food in Florence?

1950 American Diner is not just the name of a restaurant in Florence – it literally takes you back to the 50s! Every corner of the place, every single item on their menu, even the waitresses with their roller skates, and of course, the music – everything’s dedicated to making you feel the retro vibe.

About 1950 American Diner’s Menu

The menu has a wide variety of what you’d normally find at a typical American diner. Endless choices of burgers, steak, bagels, donuts, milkshakes, and even some Texan and Mexican dishes – you name it! There are also some items for vegetarians and vegans, as well as gluten-free dishes, so it’s really hard not to find anything you’d like on the menu, be it a main dish, a dessert, an appetizer, or even a drink.

My Two Cents About 1950 American Diner

I remember I ordered a Juicy Lucy and I gave that a 7.5/10. I’m very picky when it comes to burgers or beef, in general, but overall, it was a nice sandwich. I was mostly impressed by the interiors and the atmosphere of the diner. Did I tell you they have a Marylin Monroe sculpture with her iconic white dress flying away above guests’ heads? That’s something!

So, I’m not saying this is the most delicious burger in the world or this is the best food in Florence; however, the overall experience is just amazing. Good food and an amazing customer experience still make a great combo!

Where is the Diner Located?

There are several branches scattered around provinces in Tuscany, but the one I went to was in Florence. It’s technically in the center and very close to everything – basically a walking distance from Galleria dell’ Accademia di Firenze, where I was before going there. In fact, I met a group of Egyptian tourists in the queue before entering the museum and they were the ones who told me about it. I’ve been to a diner in Paris and another in Rennes with the exact same concept, but this was definitely my favorite in terms of atmosphere. They definitely nailed it and teleported me back to the 50s in the US.
