Well, it’s not a specific garment, but it’s any garment made of a particular kind of fabric, to be more precise. It’s Merino wool in case you haven’t guessed it. So far, I’ve only tried Merino wool tank tops by Unbound Merino and they’ve been a great addition to my whole wardrobe and not just my packing list. Let me tell you why!

Why Add Merino Wool Garments to Your Spring Break Packing List?

#1 They’re lightweight

Garments made of Merino wool are lightweight which means you get to capitalize on packing space. It also means your baggage will weigh less, which is always a plus. So, especially if you’re flying on a budget airline with only a backpack, this is going to be a major upgrade to your Spring break packing list.

#2 They require fewer washes

Merino wool is a miraculous type of fabric as it wicks moisture and acts as a natural antibacterial, which automatically means there’s less sweat, so it can stay fresh for weeks. It doesn’t just give the peace of mind that comes with wearing an odorless garment, but it also requires fewer washes. That means no need to worry about laundry when you’re on the go.

Even if you’re on a months-long backpacking trip and will need to wash your Merino wool clothes, they dry fast and they don’t wrinkle. Tell me about convenience!

#3 They’re sustainable

Fewer washes? Less water consumption. You’re happy, the environment is happy, everyone’s happy! If you’re a responsible traveler looking for more ways to travel sustainably, then switching to Merino wool will not just up your Spring break packing list, but your year-round one as well.

#4 They’re versatile

Most of the time, Merino wool clothes are very minimalistic, which means they’re also versatile. As a traveler, that’s definitely in your best interest as you can mix and match it with different garments and put together more outfits with fewer pieces of clothing.

#5 They’re perfect for layering

Merino wool is breathable and has insulating properties as well. This makes it great for layering, whether you’re spending time in the outdoors or if you’re traveling to a destination where Spring can be a little chilly.

Unbound Merino Review

I have the black Muscle Tank and the lilac Active Tank from Unbound Merino, and after having them for almost a year now, it’s safe to give an honest review.

For starters, the simplicity of the designs makes them super versatile, especially the black tank. I’ve worn that on travel days at the airport, hiking, and grabbing breakfast. I’ve worn them on hot days as a tank top, layered them with other garments, and as undershirts in colder weather.

But what I have to say, what I’m impressed with the most is the quality and how the brand promise is credible. The material truly wicks off sweat and requires minimal washes, and so far, they’re as good as new as I followed the care instructions on Unbound Merino’s website.

So, even if merino wool garments can be a bit pricey, they’re absolutely worth the investment as they could last for so long. They’re the perfect addition to your Spring break packing list and all year-round ones too.

  1. I haven’t tried Unbound Merino before, but these sound like great products to try out for hiking.

    1. I fell in love with their quality really and haven’t posted that until after I’ve tried their products for a whole year. Totally recommended!

  2. I must admit I might not have thought of adding Merino wool garments to my spring packing list.
Certainly would not of thought of this material for tank tops! I always think of Merino wool for when we
head out for cold weather destinations. But they are great for layering when the spring temperatures
    vary.

  3. I hadn’t thought of buying sleeveless tops in
merino wool for spring travel but your
suggestion makes sense. I love my merino
    wool socks for hiking.

    1. They’re life-changing really! And good to know about the socks – I was about to add to cart for my next order and now I’m more encouraged to try them out 🙂

  4. Love, love, love merino wool garments! Even in summer. So great for travel, always look smart, never
smell bad. Just make sure they are mulesing free (there are web sites which tell you which brands are
    mulesing free)

    1. That’s a very important remark – thank you for flagging this! As far as I know, Unbound Merino works with independent and mulesing-free farms.
